Companies were ranked based on their 2017 Central Florida operating revenue.

JK2 Construction was ranked No. 19 among some of the best in the industry, which is five higher than last year.

The recognition is the latest in a series of honors for JK2. Over the past year, the company was named among Orlando Business Journal’s 2017 Fast 50 and made the Gator100 list for the second year in a row.

JK2 Construction & Scenic was ranked No. 24 among some of the best in the industry.

The recognition is the latest in a series of honors for JK2. The company was named as a finalist for the ACG Orlando 2017 SMART Award, ranked in OBJ’s 2017 Fast 50 list, and received the University of Florida Gator100 Honor this year.

JK2 Construction & Scenic entered its 30^th year with revenues over $10 million and 12 percent growth over last year. The Apopka-based business has been named among the fastest growing companies in Central Florida, and it has numerous accolades, including several Excellence in Construction ABC Eagle Awards and a ranking among the GrowFL Florida Companies to Watch.

But it wasn’t always that way.

When Paul Holmes started JK2 Construction in 1987, he was the only employee. He dreamed of controlling his own career path and starting a business that could be multigenerational.

In the height of the Great Recession, company principals took pay cuts down to minimum wage and built the business back from reserves. In 2008, Holmes and the company took another risk, starting JK2 Scenic and bringing theming, specialty fabrication and millwork services in-house.  This allowed JK2 to diversify the business and create a revenue stream outside its typical construction clients.

The years of hard work and investment have paid off. JK2 Scenic has grown revenues by more than 1,000 percent since 2013, and JK2 has a multi-million-dollar roster of projects, including work for national homebuilders and area theme parks. The company now has more than 40 employees, and a second generation has entered the business, with Holmes’ daughter, Julie, as a principal and Vice President of JK2 Scenic and nephews Tucker and Garrett with JK2 Construction.

JK2 Construction & Scenic named among Orlando Business Journal’s 2017 Fast 50

Family-owned business honored for incredible growth

APOPKA, Fla. (June 12, 2017) – JK2 Construction & Scenic has been honored for its outstanding growth, ranking among Orlando’s top 50 fastest growing companies.

The Fast 50 list is compiled by the Orlando Business Journal. The list includes private business in Orange, Seminole, Lake and Osceola counties, ranked based on the percentage of revenue growth from 2014-2016.

JK2 has seen revenues grow by over 40 percent from 2014 to 2016.

The company combines the capabilities of a general contractor with a dynamic scenic division, allowing it to offer architectural millwork, custom props and specialty items in-house. JK2 Construction has completed projects at area theme parks, as well as for several national home builders. JK2 Scenic has also completed projects at area theme parks, including the new water park in town.
